Drive south of the river cities in the Heart of the Valley and one travels a score of roads leading to the small farming communities of the area. Hollandtown is located south on County Trunk D from Kaukauna.
The Dutch are proud of the heritage, but don't expect windmills, wooden shoes or canals as they have been replaced by modern industry relating to dairy farming and cheese processing. Every fall there is a celebration of "Schut", a rifle competition that is centuries old. It is the only competition of its kind in this country. The "schut" originated in Holland after the Crusades. The first "schut" was held in Hollandtown in 1850 and has been held every year since then.
At present a very popular public recreation area is being used by all age groups in Hollandtown. This well planned and well-used site has been expanded in recent years to accommodate the growing population of Hollandtown.
